| Philadelphia Eagles History The Philadelphia Eagles are members of the NFC East Division of the National Football League based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Eagles established in 1933 as a replacement for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Eagles were named after the Blue Eagle which was a symbol used for the New Deal stimulus programs started during the Great Depression. The team struggled over the course of their first decade and endured repeated losing seasons. In 1943 manpower was short because of World War II and it made it impossible to fill the roster so the Eagles merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers forming the "Phil-Pitt Eagles" and were known as the "Steagles. Before the NFL - AFL merger The Eagles won three NFL Championships, 1948,1949 and 1960. In the modern Super Bowl era the Eagles have won seven NFC East Division championships and two Conference championships. They appeared in two Super Bowls 1980 and 2004. They lost both of them. |
